# Export companies (https://webmetic.de/docs/en/visitor-intelligence/export)

The export contains exactly the companies your list shows right now. You can choose **Excel (.xlsx)** or **CSV** with fields of your choice, or two fixed formats for ad campaigns: **LinkedIn Retargeting** and **Google Custom Audiences**. At the end you'll have:

- an Excel or CSV file with the companies in your list and the fields you chose
- optionally, a second sheet with all page views
- or a file in the fixed format for LinkedIn or Google

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

- **Time**: An export takes a few clicks, and your browser downloads the file directly.
- **Account**: You need a Webmetic account with at least one website on which Webmetic has identified companies.
- **Rights**: Any user in your account can export. You don't need admin rights.
- **Plan**: The export is available in every plan and doesn't cost credits. On the Free plan, you see the first 10 new companies per month by name. The export then contains only these companies and the companies from your trial or paid period. The window points this out and offers the button **Choose a plan**. For details, see [Free plan](https://webmetic.de/docs/en/visitor-intelligence/unternehmensliste#spot-hidden-companies-on-the-free-plan).

## Prepare the list [#prepare-the-list]

The export takes over the settings of your list:

- **Date range**: The file contains only companies with visits in the chosen date range.
- **Segment**: If a segment is active, Webmetic exports only its companies, each with only the visits that match the segment.
- **Search**: A search term narrows the file the same way it narrows the list.
- **Subdomain**: If you've chosen a subdomain, that view applies too.
- **Sort order**: The rows appear in the same order as in the list.

1. Open the company list of your website.
2. Set the date range, segment, and search so that the list shows the companies you want.
3. Choose the sort order.

For details, see [Company list](https://webmetic.de/docs/en/visitor-intelligence/unternehmensliste) and [Filters and search](https://webmetic.de/docs/en/visitor-intelligence/filter-und-suche). Apart from the page view limit further down, there is no cap on the number of companies.

## Export an Excel or CSV file [#export-an-excel-or-csv-file]

1. On the right of the filter strip, in the **Adjust results** group, click the download icon **Export**. The **Export company data** window opens.
2. Under **Choose export format**, choose **Excel (.xlsx)** or **CSV**.
3. Optional: Choose the fields as described in the next section.
4. Optional, Excel only: Turn on **Include page views**.
5. Click **Export**. Your browser downloads the file at once, and the window closes.

On a smartphone and on a tablet in portrait mode, tap **More options** > **Export**.

Webmetic remembers the format, the fields, and the page view option for your user. Excel is the default for your first export.

## Select fields [#select-fields]

For Excel and CSV, you decide which columns the file contains. You can pick from 52 fields in the groups **Basic data**, **Contact**, **Location**, **Company details**, **Social media**, **Description**, and **Session & UTM**.

1. Under **Export options**, next to **Select fields**, click **Edit**. The **Select fields for export** window opens with the lists **Available fields** and **Selected fields**.
2. Add fields with **Add** or **Add all**.
3. Remove fields with **Remove** or **Remove all**.
4. Order the fields with **Move up**, **Move down**, **Move to top**, and **Move to bottom**. The columns in the file follow this order.
5. Click **Save**.

![The Select fields for export window with available and selected fields](https://webmetic.de/docs/media/en/light/export-felder.webp)

You start with eight preset fields, which appear in the file as `Datum`, `Unternehmen`, `Website`, `Adresse`, `PLZ`, `Stadt`, `Kurzbeschreibung DE`, and `Gesamte Sitzungsdauer`. If you select no fields, Webmetic exports exactly these.

## Include page views in Excel [#include-page-views-in-excel]

If you turn on the option **Include page views**, the Excel file receives a second sheet "Seitenaufrufe" with one row per page view. The sheet has these columns:

```text
Unternehmens-ID, Unternehmen, Besuchszeit, Seiten-URL, Seitentitel, Scroll-Tiefe (%), Interaktionen, UTM Quelle, UTM Medium, UTM Kampagne, UTM Begriff
```

Webmetic adds the column `Unternehmens-ID` to the first sheet so you can join the two sheets. You get page views only in Excel, not in the CSV file.

The sheet holds at most 1,048,575 page views. If there are more, the export stops with a message, which appears in German. Then choose a shorter date range or export without page views.

## File layout [#file-layout]

These points apply to Excel and CSV:

- **File name**: The file is called `webmetic_export_` followed by the date and time, for example `webmetic_export_20-10-26_14-05.xlsx`.
- **Column headers**: The column headers are always in German, even if your dashboard is set to English. The field selection window shows the names in your dashboard language.
- **CSV**: The file is encoded as UTF-8 without BOM and separates columns with commas.
- **Excel**: The first sheet is called "Unternehmen", and the column headers are in row 2.
- **Duration**: `Gesamte Sitzungsdauer` adds up the duration of all visits, in seconds in the CSV file and as hours, minutes, and seconds in Excel.
- **Not included**: Webmetic doesn't export tags or comments.

## Create a file for LinkedIn or Google [#create-a-file-for-linkedin-or-google]

For ad campaigns, Webmetic creates a CSV file in a fixed format. Webmetic doesn't send anything to LinkedIn or Google. You upload the file yourself, and for new companies you export again. This file is also called `webmetic_export_` followed by the date and time.

1. In the filter strip, click **Export**.
2. Choose **LinkedIn Retargeting** or **Google Custom Audiences**. The field selection disappears, and a note lists the fixed columns.
3. Click **Export**.
4. Upload the file in your ad account.

![The Export company data window with the LinkedIn Retargeting format](https://webmetic.de/docs/media/en/light/export-linkedin.webp)

### LinkedIn Retargeting [#linkedin-retargeting]

Your file has exactly this header line, shown here with an example row:

```text
companyname,companywebsite,companyemaildomain,linkedincompanypageurl,city,companycountry,zipcode
Muster GmbH,muster.example,muster.example,https://www.linkedin.com/company/muster-example/,München,Deutschland,80331
```

`companywebsite` and `companyemaildomain` both hold the company's main domain without `www.`. `companycountry` holds the country the way Webmetic stored it. A file can therefore mix names and codes, for example Deutschland and DE.

### Google Custom Audiences [#google-custom-audiences]

Your file has exactly this header line, shown here with an example row:

```text
First Name,Last Name,Country,Zip,Email,Phone
,,DE,80331,info@muster.example,089 1234567
```

`First Name` and `Last Name` always stay empty, even though the note in the window mentions first and last names. `Email` and `Phone` are the company's general email address and phone number. Webmetic writes the phone number the way it is stored. `Country` is a two-letter code, or stays empty if Webmetic can't map the country.

Companies with neither an email address nor a phone number are left out of the file, so it can contain fewer companies than your list.
