FAQ
These answers cover identification, setup, data protection, plans, and features of Webmetic.
Webmetic and identification
What does Webmetic do?
Webmetic shows which companies visit your website, not which people. For each company you see a profile with address, industry, website, and, where available, the number of employees and the revenue, each as a range. You also see every visit with the pages viewed, the time on page, and where the visit came from.
For details, see How Webmetic works and Company profile.
How does Webmetic identify a company?
By the network a visit comes from. Webmetic matches networks with its own database, built from public register data of networks, public company information, and pseudonymous observations from tracking. Webmetic names a company only when the hints are clear.
For details, see How Webmetic identifies the company.
What is the identification rate?
There is no general number. Visits from mobile networks, home offices, VPNs, and cloud services stay anonymous, and so do private visits. The numbers in the dashboard are therefore a reliable lower bound, and you find out your own rate during the trial.
For details, see Identification rate and data quality.
Does Webmetic identify people?
No. Webmetic identifies companies, not people. You find contacts at an identified company with the contact search, and unlocking an email address or phone number costs credits.
For details, see Contacts.
Setup
Which websites does Webmetic work on?
Any website where you can add the tracking code. Guides are available for Google Tag Manager, WordPress with the Webmetic plugin, Shopify, Matomo Tag Manager, and the code in your HTML. If you have no access to the website, you hand the task to your IT team or agency in the setup assistant.
For details, see Installation.
Why are no companies showing yet?
First check your website's status under Menu > Websites. Active means data with your account ID arrived in the last 24 hours. After that, the first companies appear with the first identifiable visits. With the Turn on real-time updates option, the list reloads every 15 seconds.
For details, see Check your installation and Troubleshooting.
How do I hide my own company?
Webmetic hides your own company automatically as long as the tracked website belongs to your company. Add other domains, for example your agency's, under Menu > Company > Domain blacklist. The entry applies to new visits. Webmetic offers no exclusion by IP address, and the opt-out isn't meant for this either.
For details, see Domain blacklist.
Data protection
Does Webmetic set cookies?
No. Webmetic sets no cookies of its own. If your website has a Google Analytics cookie, the tracking code reads its ID.
For details, see What the tracking code records.
Do I need consent for Webmetic?
You decide that as the controller. Webmetic processes the data in pseudonymized form, sets no cookies of its own, and reads the ID of an existing Google Analytics cookie. Whether the code may load before consent is a question for your data protection advisor.
Copy the text for your privacy policy from the Privacy notice section under Menu > Tracking code. You'll also find the text in German and English under Add the privacy notice. For details, see Tie the tracking code to consent and Webmetic's privacy policy.
Is there a data processing agreement?
Yes. Admins create it under Menu > Company > DPA in German or English and download it as a PDF.
For details, see Get the data protection documents.
How do visitors object to tracking?
At webmetic.de/opt-out with the Activate opt-out button. The objection applies to that device and that internet connection on all websites that use Webmetic.
For details, see Tie the tracking code to consent.
Trial, plans, and cancellation
How do I try Webmetic?
With a 14-day trial that needs only your website and email address, no payment details. The trial starts when Webmetic first detects your tracking code, not when you sign up. During that time you use every Growth feature. The badge at the top rounds down, so right after the start it shows Trial: 13 days left.
For details, see Trial and Free plan.
What happens after the trial?
Without a purchase, your account switches to the Free plan by itself, and Webmetic deletes nothing.
On the Free plan you see the first 10 new companies per month by name, counted across all websites. Every company from the trial stays readable. Export, integrations, API, and AI assistant keep working, but only with the readable companies.
For details, see Free plan.
Which plans are there?
Free, Starter, Growth, and Enterprise. You book Starter and Growth for a number of identified companies per month and pay monthly or annually. If Webmetic identifies more companies than you booked, all of them stay visible, and Webmetic doesn't charge extra automatically.
The current prices are on webmetic.de/preise, and the Plans page describes what each plan includes.
How do I cancel?
Admins click Cancel subscription under Menu > Billing. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, which follows the day your plan started, not the calendar month. Until then, you can take the cancellation back with the Reactivate subscription button. After that, your account continues on the Free plan with all its data.
For details, see Cancel your plan.
How do I downgrade my plan?
Through support, because you can't switch to a smaller plan or another billing period yourself. The Webmetic team changes your plan after your message. Admins book an upgrade themselves, though, and it applies right away.
For details, see Downgrade or change the billing period.
Features
Which integrations are there?
In the dashboard, admins connect HubSpot, Lexware Office, Samdock, and Evalanche. With an API key, n8n, Make, Zapier, Clay, and the Matomo plugin fetch the data. There are no dedicated integrations for Salesforce, Pipedrive, Slack, or Teams. With n8n, Make, or Zapier, you pass the data on to other tools.
Integrations are part of every plan, but on the Free plan only with the readable companies. For details, see Integrations.
Is there an API?
Yes. Admins find your API key under Menu > Integrations > API. The API is part of every plan, and on the Free plan it returns only the readable companies.
For details, see API.
Can I export the data?
Yes. From the company list you download an Excel or CSV file, and fixed formats for LinkedIn and Google are available. The export costs no credits and on the Free plan contains only the readable companies.
For details, see Export companies.
What do I need credits for?
Only for unlocking the email address or phone numbers of a contact. The search, reopening unlocked data, company data, export, and transfers to your CRM cost no credits, and neither does Enrichment until January 31, 2027. Credits don't expire.
For details, see Credits.
Does Webmetic work in ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, with the AI assistant on every plan. On the Free plan it sees only the readable companies.
The AI assistant FAQ answers all other questions.
Account and help
How many users can I add?
As many as you like, on every plan. There are two roles, Admin and User, and only admins manage users, the DPA, integrations, and billing. A role applies to the whole account with all its websites.
For details, see Users and roles.
Can I track several websites?
Yes. The same tracking code works on every website, and you add each domain under Menu > Websites. Each website has its own company list.
How many websites you can add depends on your plan. There is no limit in the trial, Growth, and Enterprise.
For details, see Websites.
Where do I get help?
In the dashboard: click your name or initials at the top right, then Support. This works on every plan and for every user. If you can't sign in, use the contact form.
If a company's data is wrong, report it in the profile with Report data. For details, see Support.
