Security and access
With your approval, the AI assistant reads your account's Webmetic data and changes nothing there.
The AI assistant connects an AI client such as ChatGPT or Claude to your Webmetic account. For example, your head of sales asks ChatGPT which companies read your pricing page this week.
ChatGPT fetches your account's visit data and answers in the chat. The assistant only reads and can't change anything in Webmetic while it does this.
From connecting to the answer
- 1Connect the clientYou add Webmetic to your AI client.
- 2Sign in to WebmeticThe client opens the Webmetic sign-in page. You sign in and click Anmelden und verbinden.
- 3Fetch the dataFor your question, the client calls the right tools. Webmetic returns your account's data.
- 4Answer in the chatThe client sums up the data and answers you in the chat.
Sign-in
Your AI client connects with your Webmetic login and opens the page Webmetic verbinden in your browser for this. The page belongs to Webmetic and not to the AI vendor, so the AI vendor never sees your password.
The page is in German. You enter your E-Mail-Adresse (email address) and Passwort (password) and click Anmelden und verbinden (sign in and connect). Signing in and approving access are one step.
Every connection gets the same access, whichever client asks for it. Sign-in works in every client that Connect the AI assistant covers.
The API key is the alternative when signing in through the browser isn't possible:
- Scripts and automations: A script or a CI pipeline can't sign in through a browser.
- Single sign-on: If you only sign in to Webmetic with single sign-on (SSO), you have no password for the sign-in page. Ask an admin for the API key.
You enter the key in the client's configuration, and admins find it under Menu > Integrations > MCP. For details, see Connect with an API key.
Don't put the API key in public code. Anyone with the key can fetch your account's data.
What the assistant sees
A connection belongs to the whole account and not to a single person. Any user of your account can connect, and every connection sees all websites of the account, but no others.
The assistant reads this data:
- Companies: name, industry, size, and address, the company's email address and phone number, and the scores for relevance, activity, and fit.
- Visits: time, duration, device type, source, campaign, and the country of the visit.
- Pages and interactions: the pages viewed with scroll depth, plus forms, downloads, and clicks on external links.
- Contacts: name and position of people at companies that visited your websites, plus unlocked email addresses and phone numbers.
Webmetic doesn't pass IP addresses or the city of a visit to the assistant.
The AI assistant is included in every plan, including the Free plan and the trial. On the Free plan, though, it only sees the companies whose names you see. For details, see Free plan.
What the assistant may do
The assistant has eight tools: six read visit data, and two search for contacts and unlock contact details.
No tool changes tags, segments, profiles, settings, or websites, and the assistant doesn't send emails or messages.
Searching for contacts is free. Unlocking contact details costs credits, and your AI client asks before unlocking unless you have allowed it permanently.
Data your account has already unlocked costs nothing when you fetch it again.
Log
Webmetic logs every tool call, and for connections made with your Webmetic login also the name of the AI client. Webmetic does not see your questions.
Data in the chat
Webmetic's answers appear in your AI client's chat, and your AI vendor's terms apply to the conversation. The AI assistant has no data store of its own and reads your account's data. Only searching for and unlocking contacts fetches new data, and Webmetic stores it in your account as in the dashboard.
This table shows who sees which data:
| Data | Webmetic | Your AI vendor |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password of your Webmetic login | Yes, on the sign-in page | No |
| Your questions in the chat | No | Yes |
| Tool calls, for example the website queried | Yes, and with your Webmetic login also the name of the AI client | Yes |
| Answers with company, visit, and contact data | Yes, from your account | Yes, in the chat |
End access
You grant access with your Webmetic login when you connect, and you can disconnect in the AI client at any time.
You end a connection with an API key in one of two ways:
- In the client: You remove the key from the client's configuration.
- In Webmetic: You create a new key. Admins open Menu > Integrations > API, click Regenerate in the Visitor Intelligence section, and confirm with a second click.
A new key makes the old one invalid, also in every other connection that uses it. This can't be undone.
Afterwards, enter the new key wherever you want to stay connected.
Privacy and support
Webmetic's general privacy information is in the privacy policy. Our support answers questions about security or a connection.
